Colombina, in a strategic alliance with Enertiva, has taken a significant step towards sustainability by completing the installation of a solar-energy system on the roofs of its plant in Escuintla, Guatemala. This project, which consists of the integration of 2,269 solar panels, through a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA Solar), will give Colombina 20% of its energy from the sun - reaffirming its commitment with the environment and operational efficiency.

Thanks to this initiative, the plant will reduce its CO2 emissions by approximately 750 tons per year, which is equivalent to planting 4,200 trees. This implementation contributes significantly to air quality, and is aligned with the global strategy of the two companies, making them leaders in environmental initiatives within the community, in which, in addition, it generated more than 30 jobs during its construction.

"This project in Guatemala is a really important milestone for us at Colombina because it reflects our efforts to contribute efficiently to the care of the planet and inspires us to continue strengthening our corporate practices alongside our allies," said.Eduardo Parra, Vice President of Supply Chain at Colombina.

The installation of solar panels represents the first of international stature that Colombina has carried out, as it already has two self-generation solar energy plants in Colombia, one at its confectionery plant and the other at its cookie plant.

With this new endeavor in Guatemala, the company now gets 92% of its global-operation electrical energy consumption from renewable sources.

Fraterno Vila, President of Enertiva, highlighted the importance of the collaboration: "For Enertiva it is an honor to have collaborated with Colombina on this significant project and to inaugurate the project that frames our strategic alliance that began in November 2023 and "which has a long-term vision. This alliance reflects our commitment to supporting our clients in the transition towards a more sustainable future."

This project is a reality thanks to the union of these two companies, which have in common an on-going endeavor to generate positive environmental impact, aimed at preserving natural resources and seeking new sources of renewable energy.
