Colombina Maintains Its Spot Among the World’s Top 10 Most Sustainable Food Companies

February 11 2025

• For the ninth consecutive year, Colombina ranks among the top 10 food companies worldwide for sustainability practices, according to S&P Global.

• Colombina has made significant strides in sustainability, with 87% of its electricity consumption now sourced from renewable energy. The company continues to invest in health initiatives and financial support for farmers, reinforcing its commitment to responsible business practices.

Cali, February 11, 2025. Colombina proudly celebrates another milestone in sustainability, securing the 8th spot in the S&P Global Corporate Sustainability Assessment, ranking among the top 15% of companies with the highest scores in this prestigious evaluation. This recognition underscores Colombina’s dedication to sustainable growth and responsible operations management.

As part of its sustainability strategy, Colombina became a national pioneer by achieving the Zero Waste Gold Certification (Version 5) for its two ice cream plants in Bogotá and Itagüí, earning an impressive score of 97 out of 100. This certification, awarded by ICONTEC and the Basura Cero Colombia Corporation, highlights the company’s commitment to the 9R principles: Rethink, Reuse, Repair, Restore, Remanufacture, Reduce, Re-propose, Recycle, and Recover. Thanks to this approach, 99.5% of the waste generated at these plants is repurposed, reinforcing a responsible production model. With this achievement, all of Colombina’s production plants in Colombia now hold this certification.

Colombina has also reached a major milestone in renewable energy, with 87% of its electricity consumption coming from sustainable sources. This progress has been driven by initiatives such as the installation of solar panels at its Guatemala plant and solar farms supplying energy to its biscuit and confectionery plants in Colombia.

“This recognition reflects the dedication and hard work of over 9,000 employees, as well as the support of our partners, suppliers, customers, and stakeholders who collaborate with us to build a better world. We take immense pride in being once again among the most sustainable food companies globally, and this motivates us to continue advancing our sustainability strategy,” said César Caicedo, President of Colombina.

As part of the Obras por Impuestos program, Colombina will invest 4 billion Colombian pesos in 2025 to provide high-tech biomedical equipment to the San Antonio Hospital in Roldanillo. This initiative will enhance medical care in the region, benefiting surrounding municipalities and improving access to quality diagnostics and treatments.

Colombina also reinforces its commitment to gender equality and community development. In collaboration with USAID and the Colombina Foundation, the company has launched an educational and cultural initiative in Santander de Quilichao, Cauca, focused on gender equality and environmental conservation, benefiting more than 300 people.

Additionally, in 2024, Colombina successfully retained its Equipares Gold Seal recertification, following an audit by EXAC, specialists in inclusion and gender equity. The audit highlighted the company’s continued improvements and affirmative actions across all dimensions of the Equipares system.

Supporting sustainable agriculture, Colombina has provided 300 million pesos in flexible credit for chili pepper farming. In partnership with the Government of Valle del Cauca, the company has also allocated 400 million pesos to co-finance 20% of agricultural loans, strengthening its sustainable supply chain and fostering employment in the region.

“At Colombina, we firmly believe that sustainability is the key to building a more responsible future with greater opportunities. We will continue innovating and working towards making a lasting, positive impact on society and the environment,” concluded Caicedo.
