August 22 2023
Cali, August 22, 2023. Thanks to the strategy of reduction, reuse and making use of different waste from the Preserves plant in Tuluá, Colombina received the Gold Category Zero Waste certification. This certificate is a global initiative that arises to mitigate environmental problems due to the accelerated increase in waste. ICONTEC and Zero Waste Corporation Colombia certify companies with the most experience and commitment to circular economy practices.
This recognition highlights the model implemented in the plant which focuses on the reduction of waste generation, separation at the source, re-use and recycling, with which its plant has achieved the use of 83% of the industrial surpluses it they generate.
“In Colombia we have three production plants that already have this distinction. Our Colcauca plant was the first in the food sector to obtain this certification in the country, then the confectionery plant obtained it and this year it was awarded to the Preserves factory in Tuluá. This is a great achievement and recognition of the result of the continuous efforts we make in the company to contribute to sustainability with recycling actions and management of industrial surpluses. Sustainability is the central axis of our strategy, which allows us to develop
the environmental, social and financial aspects of the business in a balanced way,” commented
Pierangelo Marchetti Vice President of Strategic Planning and Sustainability Leader of Colombina.
Colombina has presented in its sustainability report its commitment to contributing
to a better world and this is reflected in its actions to combat climate change and with the implementation of a comprehensive corporate model of industrial surpluses in its production plants, among others.
Since 2015, the company has managed to reduce its water consumption by 25%, in addition to a 35% reduction in its carbon footprint per ton produced.
